At Dynamic Sports Chiropractic we see neck pain and stiffness almost as often as low back pain – it is that common. There are numerous reasons that we see it including whiplash and sports injuries, but most often it is posture-related. The most common individual who comes in with neck pain and stiffness is usually an office worker sitting at their desk for long periods of time during the day.
Neck pain and Low back pain are examined and assessed very similarly because they both are part of the spine (the neck is commonly referred to as the cervical spine in healthcare, and the low back as the lumbar spine). However, the anatomy and biomechanics of the cervical spine differ from the lumbar spine, so treatment is altered to accommodate the differences to achieve better outcomes.
To start treating your neck pain properly, the source of the pain needs to be identified. The most common sources of neck pain seen in our clinic are:
- Intervertebral Discs
- Joint Dysfunction
- Radiculopathy
- Myofascial Trigger Points
When you schedule an appointment at Dynamic Sports Chiropractic for neck pain we will go through a thorough history and exam to determine the source of your pain. This thorough history and exam is important as it not only helps us determine the source of the pain, but it allows us to rule out what are called “red flags” such as infection, fractures, cancer, etc. Afterwards, we will be able to give you honest answers and explain your pain to you in an easy to understand way and outline an individual treatment plan.
